Canopy Introduces ‘Progressive Autonomy’ to Simplify Blockchain Launches
Canopy has unveiled its "Progressive Autonomy" framework, designed to streamline the process of launching a blockchain. The model allows teams to start as sub-chains under Canopy's validator security before transitioning to fully sovereign LAYER 1 (L1) blockchains without the need for infrastructure overhauls or separate security budgets.
The framework addresses the growing constraints faced by developers choosing between L2 rollups and traditional L1 development. While rollups offer simplicity, they often come with centralized sequencers, governance-only tokens, and fragmented ecosystems that struggle to retain value. Sovereign L1s, though economically viable long-term, typically demand significant engineering effort, capital, and custom consensus development.
Progressive Autonomy provides a middle ground, offering a complete lifecycle for blockchain deployment. Teams can launch quickly with shared security, customize their chains as they mature, and eventually graduate to independent L1 status—all without sacrificing sovereignty or value capture.
